Tips, Tricks & Workarounds

If you are on a Windows® Server 2003 or later:

Some users have reported problems running GoldBox on Windows Server 2003 or later.  This usually means that Microsoft is preventing the GoldBox EXEs from loading.  To reverse this:

  1. Right-click the MyComputer shortcut and select Properties, then select the Advanced tab.
  2. Click Settings pushbutton in Performance section.  Select the Data Execution Prevention tab.
  3. If the “Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select” is selected, click the Add pushbutton and choose EVERY single EXE in the GoldBox root folder. That includes PLUSRUN.EXE and BR7.EXE.  You might also have to add the BDEADMIN.EXE, in the BDE Administrator folder.
  4. AFTER you add all the GoldBox EXEs, you must REBOOT THE SERVER for the changes to take effect.

ONLY if you are using Windows® Vista™:

FIRST: you’ll need to download these Manifest files to try and get around Vista’s reluctance to run Win32 programs. Please RIGHT-CLICK the file, choose SAVE TARGET AS, and pick the correct folder.

Linked Document Path Change:

If you have GoldBox PRO, use the dedicated LINKS Path or File Changer at the Setup menu.  It is easier to setup, is more complete, and offers more options.  Please DO NOT use the below procedure.

If you only have GoldBox BASIC, there is a way, via Global Replace, to do a ‘bare bones’ Linked Document Path Replace.  It will replace ONLY the path, if you know the current Path or Path Fragment beforehand.  It will NOT replace a linked Email Message, and will not alter the flag or time for syncing the physical disk file.  The changes made to the record, however, are sync-stamped.

Go to Setup > REPLACE Records > NEW Setup and choose the 2nd radio button. The following is the screen to use as a guide if you have GoldBox-5.  This assumes that you wish to change the Path Fragment C:\GX5 to D:\GOLDBOX5. In your scenario, substitute the actual fragments:
